In the early morning September heat Kettering 4ths took on City of Peterborough - a whole city. We could say this game is best forgotten but unfortunately we cannot do, as a lesson needs to be learnt from this performance.
In a game full of error, in which, unfortunately Kettering made far more... the positives is that the penalty corner count was heavily in Kettering's favour but only once did the home team make it count just before half time to make the score 3-1 at the break. Lee Paris continuing his scoring from last year.
The second half started in a similar fashion to the first with both team looking good and composed for Kettering to concede again after 5/10 minutes. When 3 substitutions happened in the space of 30 seconds, due to tiredness and the heat, City of Peterborough pounced scoring again past an over exposed defence. The sloppiness continued throughout the remainder of the half . the pain was only relieved by the blowing of the final whistle.
As a positive, Samuel,Dani and Joe were making their league debuts to bring the young player count up to five for the team. Full of running and enthusiasm, they all acquitted themselves well with flashes of good skill and composure. Playing league hockey is different to training, and all left the pitch with their eyes opened knowing how hard it can be. But as the league progresses these young players will develop and will soon be dishing out the pain like their opponents did today.
A bad day at the office but we as a team have faith that we can and will improve. Next week it's the extremely local Derby of 4ths V 5ths the inter club fixture. So nobody has an excuse of not being available.
