Making the most of the early start and better weather Kettering 2s and 3s played out the opening game of this season’s HockeyFest.
An entertaining game gave the 2s the opportunity to develop the structure of their new look team and the 3s a good workout prior to their debut season in 5NW.
The 3s had the better of the early stages but were unable to create any clear cut openings and eventually the 2s got a foothold in the game and started to dominate territory if not always possession. A game played in quarters saw it goalless after the first quarter but the2s score mid way through the second quarter with a lightning counter attack. A 3s short corner was blocked by Adam Mills who started a flowing length of the field move that saw Jacques Lourens clinically finish.
The second half followed a similar pattern. Some profligate finishing keeping the 3s in the game and Andy Bull and Lee Paris looked lively on the break but their chances were snuffed out.
The 2s put the game to bed at the death when a short corner after the final whistle was dispatched by Lourens.
Both teams can take positives from the game as they face two more friendlies before league action starts. The 2s host old rivals Atherstone Adders at Bishop Stopford, 100 start.
