1s vs 2s friendly

We kicked off the season with a 1s vs 2s friendly. Barring the occassional miss-hit that caused a few bruises, the game was played in good spirit.
It was the 2s that took advantage first, catching a new 1s defense on the counter attack. A long ball through to prolific scorer Kirsty Smith who tucked the ball away from close range.
It took a while for the 1s to start connecting properly, but in the 2nd quarter started to put alot of promising attacks together.
It was the 3rd quarter where we started to make those attacks count. Our 1st goal came from a slap hit from the top of the D by Meg Forader and this got the ball rolling. Our second came from a short corner, hit by Sophie Reynolds, which took an unfortunate deflection from a defender to lob the planking keeper.
Our 3rd, also from a short corner, was an expert reaction volley from Toni Hustwait on the left post to put the ball in the top of the net.
In the 4th quarter we pushed higher, changing the formation slightly, and this gave us alot more attacking options.
Sophie scored her 2nd after a great run by Meg Forader along the back line to pull the ball back to Sophie to put away.
With the more attacking formation we were slightly more vulnerable at the back and our 2s did get a couple more attacking chances, 1 of which was a terrific strike from the edge of the D by 2s captain Shez Coe to give the 2s their 2nd goal.
This didnt stop the 1s pushing forward and Sophie got her 3rd and 4th goals in similar fasion with the ball being threaded across the goal for her to put it away at the back post.
Alot of positives coming from this game, especially how well the newbies, Gracie Gault, Georgie Jones, Michelle Tanser, Megan Griggs, and Liz Metcalfe all played. None looking out of place and all grew in confidence as the game progressed.
It was also noticed how well the new players in the 2s did as none made it easy for the 1st team. Great start for all involved.
