Kettering Ladies 2nds visited Northampton Saints 2nds for their final pre-season game. Kettering soaked up pressure at the start of the game, with man of the match Evie Wharf, Louise Storey, Ellie Mulligan, Sue Russell and Natalie Irons ensuring any attackās were quickly snubbed out. This allowed Kettering to build some attacks and after a period of pressure Kettering were awarded a penalty for a foot on the line. Captain Shez Coe stepped up to give a Kettering the lead. Kettering continued to pressure and after finding herself one v one with the keeper and having her shot saved Kirsty Smith, on her second chance, made sure she rounded the keeper and fired home to double the lead. The second half saw Kettering dominating midfield, with Emma Findlay, Lucie Freeman and Mandy Starsmore-Young winning the ball and initiating attacks. Kettering scored again when Freeman pounced on a ball in the D and coolly put the ball in the back of the net and then Smith found herself on the end of a Helen Keyworth cross after fine work down the right from Harriet Goswell. Coe finished the scoring after a fine one two with Smith to give Kettering a convincing win. Kettering were ruthless in attack and firm in defence. Kettering return Saints next week for their first league game to face their 3rd team.
