Kettering Ladies 2s travelled to play Cambridge City 6s in their first league game of the season. On a very warm Saturday afternoon newly promoted Cambridge started strongly and Kettering were forced to defend throughout. Emily Burdett and Bethany Baxby both made their league debuted for Kettering and along with Charlie Bennett, Tilly Guyett and Phoebe Leverett, Sue Russell and Sophie Tomlinson in goal they managed to keep the score to just 1-0 at half time. Kettering adjusted to the pitch and found their rhythm in the second half with Rose Starsmore-Young dominating midfield with driving forward runs and distributing the ball allowing Helen Keyworth and Bennett to surge forward down the right hand side. However it was Cambridge who scored first to give them a 2-0 lead. Kettering then pulled one back when Mandy Starsmore-Young converted a penalty stroke awarded for a deliberate foul in the circle. She then scored again from a rebound after the Cambridge keeper had made a save. Kettering were now playing as they knew they could but were unable to get the winner before the end of the game arrived.
