Kettering Ladies 2nds started their Midlands league campaign against a strong Derby side. Derby put Kettering on the back foot immediately scoring three in the first five minutes. Kettering tried to adjust to the pace of the game but Derby were too quick with their passing and closing down of the ball. By half time Kettering were seven goals adrift. The second half saw Kettering play much better with their defence being shielded by Michelle Tanser and Jodie Barber. Amy March in goal had a fine game and kept the score lower that it might have possibly been. On a positive note Kettering did mount a number of attacks themselves and were close to finding the back of the net when Kirsty Smiths’s shot was well saved by the Derby keeper. Derby however were well deserved winners and finished the game 11-0, after four goals in the second half. Kettering did show improvement during the game and will take this experience of the higher league tempo with them when they travel to Newark next Saturday.
