On a bright spring morning, a rather depleted 3s squad with 11 players, plus for the first half a welcome cameo appearance by Higgo, were looking forward to a home game for a change. The opposition had pushback but Kettering rapidly got a turnover and mounted an attack, gaining an early penalty corner. That one was not converted but a number of other corners followed in quick succession. Within a few minutes Laura swept a cross in for our first goal and soon after that Fliss hit a scorching cross which was deftly deflected in by Higgo. Kettering continued to have the bulk of the attacking play, although St Ives got into their stride more as the first half wore on. The defence of Lou, Jill, Kate and Molly, whilst missing Telf in the central role, backed each other up well and rarely look threatened. Elin in goal did not have to work too hard, allowing her to save energy for her second game of the day, but she dealt confidently with anything that did come in her direction.

After half time the lovely passing play became even more fluent and Kettering continued to attack. Linking play between the mid-field and forwards was very effective, with some excellent runs by Tilly and Erin. Passing around to find space in the D earned 3 more goals - from Fliss, Nat and Tilly - before full time. This was a real team effort, demonstrating how well the team has learnt to work together, so that even with some key players missing we still retained our shape and style of play.
