Kettering travelled to Northampton to take on a strong Towcester 3s side who finished 2nd in the league last season only conceding 4 goals. So this was going to be a tough challenge for the 1st league game of the season.
Kettering started off on the front foot with some great attacking play by the midfield and forwards. This resulted in kettering getting a goal early in the first half. The goal came from a short corner where Natalia Bednarczyk had a shot saved by the keeper and Lin Leach followed up the rebound and put the ball in the goal. Towcester responded by pushing forward and scored a soft breakaway goal as kettering lost their concentration. Kettering where then awarded a penalty flick for a foul in the d. Julia Telford stepped up to take the flick and put the ball towards the bottom corner to the goal keepers left, it looked like a goal all the way only for Towcester goalkeeper Sue Christopher to pull of a top class full length diving save to keep the scores level.
After the half time break Kettering piled on the pressure and had multiple shots saved by the towcester keeper. Both full backs of kettering pushed forward with player of the match Jess Prestedge making some accurate passes to the forwards from the right back position. With 2 minutes to go Kettering finally got the breakthrough they deserved with a goal from Ola Bednarczyk. She scored after some good build up play from Lucy Mills and Keira Cox.
Overall an outstanding performance by a newly formed 3rd team with an age range from 13 to 70 a real mix of youth and experience. Well done all.
