A top of the table clash for Kettering 3s this week against a seasoned Grammarians side.
Grammarians took the initiative very early in the 1st half when they opened the scoring from a cross from their right wing which was finished by an unmarked player in the centre.
Kettering fought back well with some well worked passing play. This led to Kettering equalizer where centre mid Cath Irvin passed to forward Natalia Bednarczyck who ran the back line and pulled the ball back to Maria Higgins who crashed the ball into the backboard. With mini higgo team mascot watching Kettering continued to press throughout the first half but could not convert any of the chances made.
The second half repeated the same pattern with Grammarians scoring their 2nd with a carbon copy move and finish. However Kettering fought back again and player of the match Jan Randle did not let Grammarians have another chance with her astute defending.
Kettering equalised from a short corner where midfielder Megan Newlyn finished neatly.
Kettering had a goal disallowed late in the second half where the umpire felt the ball was not inside the circle when a crisp short corner routine was finished by Maria Higgins. This decision was hotly disputed in the clubhouse after as the team felt the ball was on the line.
In the end the game was a hard fought draw to remain undefeated in the league.
Kettering play Oundle 2s next week.
