Kettering Ladies o45s warmed up for their tricky trip to Cambridge City in the cup with a fairly comfortable win against old rivals Bedford.
Kettering introduced a couple of newcomers to the team and it was former Kettering skipper Mel Linnell who opened the scored. Regular vintage scorer Kirsty Smith doubled the lead before Bedford hit back to half their deficit. Heidi Askew was on the spot to grab a goal just before half time to give Kettering a healthy 3-1 advantage.
Controlling the pace of the game well Kettering continued to create chances in the second half. A clear foot on the line gave Shez Coe the chance to extend the lead but her penalty was well saved by Bedord’s outstanding keeper. The keeper was powerless though as Smith scored her second and Sue Russell scored the fifth from a short corner.
Kettering will be looking to have another friendly with Bedford before the cup campaign starts in earnest.
