A missed flick and a pyshics defining disallowed goal however 4ths left thinking it could have been even better.

Having been hammered 2 weeks previous by our own 3rds who are top of the league and unbeaten meant that facing 2nd in the league who have only lost to our thirds could have been daunting to the team however the team took the game on as a challenge that they were willing to get stuck into.

Kettering Started the better and enjoyed lots of possession and territory in the first 10 minutes without too many clear-cut opportunities till Caleb Fox received a pass and entered the D one on one with the keeper who got to the ground to produce an excellently executed 3-meter sliding tackle completely taking out Caleb, flick given, goalkeeper yellow card. Dwayne Lambert and Caleb Fox discussed who was to take the flick while several Bourne Deeping players surrounded the Umpire pleading the goalkeeper case but to no avail but causing a significant wait for the flick to be taken, Dwayne was elected to take and flicked the ball wide of the target with only an unprotected defender to beat. While the keeper was off Kettering had all the ball not none in the Bourne Deeping D till near the end, a driving run into the D from Stuart Mitchell playing for the 4ths out of goal for the first time this season resulted in a pass to the P spot missed by most but collected by John Rochester to power home 1-0 to Kettering and fully deserved just before the Goalkeeper was due to return another foray in to the D on the right by Stuart Mitchell stuck a ball at goal which hit a defender, hit the near post and rebounded to Shaun Curtis standing in the middle of the goal to sweep home – No goal. The umpire deemed that the ball had gone out hit the side of the goal and then rebounded to Shaun with no other intervention from any other player, objects, or adverse weather conditions, confused by the physics defying nature of the call probably makes up for the strange umpire call at their place earlier in the season. Curtis injured in the process of “Scoring” led to him being doubly frustrated. Toward the end of the half Bourne Deeping scored through a well-executed short corner routine which was deflected into the net from close range. 1-1 at Halftime but Kettering feeling they should be up by a couple of goals.
Half time message was move and release the ball quicker and go wider we would win the game easily as we were dominating the game in terms of possession and territory.
The second half started with the away team on top and applying pressure on the Kettering D similar to Kettering in the first half no clear-cut opportunities arising, Kettering grew into the half but had forgotten the key aspects spoken about at half time and from the sideline looked to go narrower and keep the ball longer taking more touches before looking to pass and release the ball on neither the less Kettering had several opportunities to score and win the game but lacked the quality in the final pass or the shot along with some great defending from Bourne Deeping kept Kettering 4s at bay.
Looking at a huge positive in the way we played, defended, and caused 2nd in the league huge problems and that at the start of the season we would have taken a draw we were quite happy to take a 2-0 loss away so to finish the game believing we should have won the game is a slight comfort. What didn’t add any comfort is the Umpire after the game giving in a practical demonstration how the ball went out of play and rebounded into the middle of the D which proved extremely futile, thanks Nathan.
