Well this is what summer league is about, a team consisting of players from every single Kettering adult team (both ladies and men’s) and an age range of 13 to 52. Led out by this weeks co-captains Ethan and Isabelle, saw 4 new faces playing for their first summer league game, means that so far in the three games we’ve used 24 different players for Supernovas. Just goes to show how many players want to have fun and play in the summer league! Maybe two teams next year!
Despite the new faces, we played some lovely cohesive hockey and mostly in their half, but again just couldn’t find that final touch. That said they had a couple of shorts which the defence snuffed out before even a shot on goal, and the only time I was called upon was a crash ball through which saw me with a 50:50 , ball or card tackle with their attacker….thankfully I got the ball and not the card. Nil:nil at half time..
Second half again started mostly in their half, and chances went begging, a couple of shorts came to nothing, a beautiful air shot by Dan was clearly going top bins in his mind but only in his mind, and then clearly his shoelaces were the problem when it shot wide. The deadlock was finally broken by player of the Rachel, after a scramble in the D, I couldn’t see but apparently a 50:50 resulted in Ben J sitting on the keeper and Rachel scoring. Hey the all count.
The last 10 saw a resurgent Wootton, and a bit more pressure in our half, but our defence were adamant they were going to keep a clean sheet, and we did thanks to a goal line stop and clearance by Ross.
1:0 victory and a good competitive game. We now have a week off before we go for the hat trick of wins.
