Another Saturday means another game against another also promoted team. This time, we face the only team to have beaten us at home for as long as I can remember, and the only team to beat us at all last year: Cambridge HC. Our opposition are a rogue but talented bunch. My sources tell me they formed after a falling out with one of the innumerable other Cambridge-based sides, award a bottle of wine to the best (in their opinion) opposition player, and are generally quite good. They walked last year's league, and have had strong start this year, beating Cambridge City 5-0.
We share more than our previous league. The Tangies are as keen on stalking their opposition's social media platforms as we are (well, me and Luke), and seem very up for the game. Apparently their number six got abused a lot last week for his 'tiny aerials,' so if somebody could whip out that chat, I'd be very grateful and highly amused. And they also seem eager for the post-match beer festival. Regardless of our performance on pitch, this is where we really shine. Perhaps Ant can relive his halcyon university days and organise a boat-race. For a team unusually full of recent and current tax-dodgers students, it should be a doddle.
They have further noticed that we have strengthened our squad - several new signings and getting rid of Lewis - and our team for this weekend is appropriately strapping. Will Hartley, Mikey Crane, and IronBoy Ed Jennings make their first appearances of the season for the Ones. Top yobber Luke Naunton is mysteriously injured, but, desperate to claim the title of biggest badger, he has assumed a managerial role. Prepare for Burnley-meets-Bishop.
Like every game this year, it is going to be tough - but that's what we want. Winning every week teaches you nothing. Please come and support us at 2:30. Bring your family and friends, then encourage them to join us at the beer festival afterwards. The Tangies are reportedly a nice bunch, and they seem like good lads, so let's give them a terrible time on pitch and a great time off it. See you all tomorrow!
