All players were presented with their awards in the bar after a ceremonial Jacket Potato dinner (with the obvious exception of Jack) where they were roundly applauded by the students, except they weren't. They didn't go back to their own clubhouse or were they having a debrief in how a bunch of old boys and young lads managed to turn them over?
We won 1-0 and played fantastically well. They had, as you would expect loads of the ball but didn't really do much with it. We were super compact and competed in all areas. We were good on the break. Kethan scored our goal after Paul smashed a ball across the D, Tatty deflected it and Kethan reacted on the far post to deflect it in. Some would less charitably say it hit him while he was taking evasive action but I was right behind it and he definitely deflected it goalwards. They hit the post early on but other than that Prof Barry only had to make a few standard saves.
After last week's poor second half against Ely this was a great comeback and sets us in good stead for this week's game against Spalding where we aim to correct our defeat in the Fens earlier in the season.
The game also featured a first for me (pretty amazing after all the games I've played). We had four umpires!! One did the whole game. One started the game but had never done a game in her life and hot footed it off once a National League umpire in jeans and Timberlands wandered by the pitch. He was good but was sadly replaced a half time by what we assumed was the late arriving original umpire. Come on - with all your A* A levels sort the organisation out!!
