After last weeks no show against CoP4s this week it was the turn of CoP5s and, unlike last week, Kettering delivered.
A decidedly chilly afternoon at Fortress Bishop with rain interspersed with hail showers and sunshine saw Kettering lay siege to Peterborough’s half for the first twenty minutes. Those of us who have played for years know exactly how this plays out and it didn’t disappoint. We couldn’t score despite 6 short corners they broke away and scored. One nil down very much against the run of play. No panic though. The 2s just kept trying to do the right thing. Eventually a breakthrough when Tatty scored to tie the game and that was the state of play at the break.
Knowing that goals would arrive if we just kept going we did just that. Plugging away. The 12th short corner saw Tatty score from quite a slick move. (Note to selves - don’t practice short corners!!). Pat Cawley bagged his second in two weeks and Tatty scored very late on to complete both his hat trick and also put an end to his 2026 goal drought.
All in all a good day at the office and now a top 6 finish is already guaranteed. A top effort given our aim was securing our place in the league .
Off to Wisbech next week to see if we can get a win after they ‘rope a dope’d’ us when winning 2-0 at Kettering before Christmas.
