Barry Coe

Jack, Tatty goals seal the points.

The cricket season hasn’t even finished yet and the hockey league season has already started and Kettering moderately new look side took the the Fortress Bishop pitch looking to beat Peterborough 4s to avenge a defeat inflicted towards the end of last season.

The mighty 2s lined up with youngster Tom Smith at full back in place of the injured Jamie Smith and gave a 2s league debut to Zach Jarvis after a stellar season in the 3s last year.

You never know quite what to expect when Peterborough come to town and this year was no exception. We faced a very experienced team who adopted a long ball approach which contrasted with the hosts more measured build up play.
The first action saw veteran keeper Barry make a save with his head which certainly sharpened him up after last week’s bumbling performance.

Kettering forced seven short corners in the first half and Wednesday night’s short corner practice certainly needs repeating as no real clear cut chances were created.

Any half breaks by Peterborough were mopped up by the impressive Dean at the back.

The half time chat centred around the need to keep playing the same way and a goal would come. And lo it did come. A quick counter attack saw Kethan cross the ball and it eventually fell to Tatty who took his time and picked his spot. 1-0 to Kettering.
Kettering pretty much dominated the second half without really putting Peterborough’s keeper under real pressure. Ireland international and headband model Darren controlled the play in midfield in what was a fine all round team performance. Two or three more short corners went begging and it was only with three minutes to go that Kettering wrapped up the points when Jack fired home. A job well done on the annual quest of #safebychristmas. Three points in the bag in what looks a very open Division 3NW this season.
