We start the season with a #safebyChristmas attitude and really that should be eminently possible. This was really two points thrown away though as we failed to finish off a dogged Spalding side who, having equalised, looked favourites to go on and win.
Kettering, proudly sponsored by Yusen Logistics, started very strongly, keeping the ball, harrying Spalding defenders, and forcing some chances but without really looking like applying the killer touch. Kettering had a couple of short corners that came to nothing but Mills A did score one with a shot that the keeper possibly should have saved. It was a reflection of how in control Kettering were that keeper Barry didn’t touch the ball in the first half. The real highlight of the half being Mills B slipping on some stray black ice that had mysteriously appeared on the slow sandy surface.
The second half saw both teams reduced to ten for a couple of minutes, in separate incidents, so Tatty retains his lead as the most green carded player in 3NW. Chances came and went and eventually a short corner was saved and the rebound fired home to tie the game. Fun fact - that’s four goals conceded in four games, all short corners, so no open play goal conceded so far. Mills B then blotted his copybook with a yellow card but the hosts managed to see out the remaining time even though Spalding did push for what would have been an undeserved winner.
Next week sees the two at Bourne for the morning show! A 10am start so not expecting much of a crowd!
