Sometimes it’s the strangest things that inspire a team and this week was really no exception as Kettering travelled to Bourne for a breakfast time start against a team newly promoted into Division 3 and doing ok.
Midweek saw young tyro Yorkie cause a full school evacuation by setting off a fire alarm. (“Honestly sir, someone put the hob on, I didn’t know, and my butter just went up!”). Anyway this saw Kettering set pieces on fire as they took an early lead when Adam fired home. Kettering then conceded their first open play goal of the season when poor marking saw a crash ball deflected in. But, with short corners looking very threatening the visitors retook the lead as Zach scored before the break.
Kettering came out strongly and a great ball by Ethan found Adam, whose defence splitting pass found Tatty one on one with the keeper. Cool head, round the keeper, 3-1. With only 12 Kettering attempted to keep the tempo high but managed to keep also managed to keep Bourne interested and they closed the gap with a short corner that Adam deflected into the goal. He had a chance to redeem himself as Tatty earned a stroke put fired wide. That would have killed the game off but Kettering managed to see out the remaining minutes despite Tatty getting his regulation green card.
Big shout out to Tom and Sam who gained joint MoM awards as they improve week by week.
Next week sees the 2s getting the graveyard shift with a 4pm start at Bishop against CoP5.
