Kettering 2-0 CoP5

On a baking hot afternoon Kettering came out on top against a Peterborough side who last year were playing in division three.
Controlling the game from the start Kettering forced Peterborough into mistakes at the back and the opening passages of play were all in the Peterborough half. Kettering were unable to make the breakthrough, the closest they came was when Ewen Scholtz fired over from close range. Peterborough worked their way into the game but the Kettering back line was fairly untroubled with Archie Colwill mopping up any loose balls.
The second half followed a similar pattern; Kettering pressing and Peterborough playing more on the break. The opening goal, when it came, was from an unusual source as left back Adam Duell worked his way into the D and picked his spot before firing home. This was no less than the hosts deserved. The second goal with 12 to go came after skipper Ollie Smith played pinball with the keeper before the ball fell to Jason Clarke who rifled the ball home. Peterborough rallied and although they forced a few short corners Kettering comfortably held out to register an impressive win. With 6 under 18s in the side all gaining valuable experience the omens look promising for the season.
Smith could not suppress his delight after the game “we knew this would be a difficult test but the team responded brilliantly after last week’s disappointing result. This sets us up nicely for next week’s trip to Wisbech, another of last year’s relegated sides.”
