Jacobs sends home fans crackers.

First game of the season so lots of nerves but a super positive result against Ipswich. Kettering knew that it was important to get off to a good start in the new league. After a fab training session full of intensity this week Kettering aimed to carry that through into the match, in order to get some points… which they did. The game started strong with Eleanor, Katie, Michelle and Isla holding good shape at the back and defending excellently with the mid field dropping into help, including Connie who made strong tackles and switched into attacking play . There were periods of pressure from both teams, with Ipswich having a good chance when one on one with keeper Sophie, who expertly shut down the player keeping the score to 0-0. Kettering made chances with Cath and Becky playing strongly up the middle, with supporting play from Issy and Eva who created width, opening up the playing space. A goal came after hard work and determination from the whole team, especially the forwards Ellie, Lucy and Ilana who were constantly moving to maintain pressure and be proactive. Ilana was the one to find the backboard after a fabulous run up the left by Katie. During half time Kettering were happy with the standard of play being displayed and entered the second half with confidence within themselves to come away with 3 points. Similar to the first half there were periods of pressure from both teams, but Kettering were able to set up and defend, denying any more goals. Overall, you could tell there was a shift in the standard that comes with a promotion. However, Kettering stepped up to this with hard work and more fluidity to start the season as we mean to go on. Player of the match went to Ilana for not only her goal but also her speed and stamina.
